Private Robert Kelly

 

The background of this North Irish Horseman is unknown at present.

Robert Kelly enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 16 November and 28 December 1911 (No.641 – later Corps of Hussars No.71053).

He embarked for France with C Squadron on 20 August 1914, seeing action on the retreat from Mons and advance to the Aisne.

On 3 December 1914 he was admitted to the 14th Field Ambulance suffering from a fever, but was able to return to duty three days later.

Kelly remained with the regiment throughout the war. On 13 March 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.
